Foujita and volume
Like a Japanese craftsman, Foujita worked extensively with materials.
At the age of nearly 80, Foujita became an architect, and designed the entire Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix, known as the “Chapelle Foujita”, in Reims. He drew up the plans, designed the ironwork, stained-glass windows and sculptures, and supervised their execution.
He covers the walls with frescoes, 200 square meters biblical inspiration, but with a multitude of details from a refined Japanese tradition.
His signature can also be found in his Maison-atelier in Villiers-Le-Bâcle, Essonne: ceramics, workshop models, decorative and useful objects in metal, plaster and wood.
