When writing and photography
give voice to parents
In the first semester of 2025, more than 40 parents from the Maison des Familles in Grenoble took part in a collective artistic expression project led by Marie Lorenzin, a writing professional, and Jean-Louis Matthieu, a photographer.
Project supported by the Fondation Foujita.
When creativity becomes a driving force
Participants were invited to write about their life stories, their feelings, and their strengths, and then to create a dialogue between these words and the image. The project unfolded in a supportive and collaborative atmosphere, allowing everyone to find their place at their own pace.
Beyond learning artistic techniques, the workshops became genuine spaces for expression, where people felt free to speak and self-esteem was rebuilt through the support of the group.
Conceived as a time for connecting with oneself and with others, this project aimed to restore confidence, give voice to unique stories, and affirm parents in their roles and identities, while strengthening family and community bonds.

“These stories remind me of my own journey as a refugee. They give me hope and strength as I work with those most in need. Well done again!”
- Writing workshops to give voice to unique stories
With Marie Lorenzin, a writing instructor, the parents explored words, even when they doubted their ability to write. Some brought their writing to a finished form. For others, the essence lay in the process itself—in the joy of writing, listening, and sharing.
- Photography to bring stories to life
With Jean-Louis Matthieu, participants explored the art of photography and worked on bringing their stories to life. They were introduced to the basics of photography and helped prepare the exhibition, including selecting images, mounting frames, and writing exhibition texts…
The photographs, printed with the support of Atelier Photo 38, added a powerful visual dimension to the stories.
“Marie Lorenzin was able to grasp and understand the unique needs of the group, allowing each member to find their place and express themselves at their own pace. The warm atmosphere within the group fostered a special sense of solidarity and mutual support among the participants. The quality and beauty of the final product filled the parents with immense pride.”
A Festive Community Celebration
The exhibition opening on the afternoon of June 27 at the Maison des Familles was a highlight of the project, which continued on June 28 as part of the neighborhood festival.
Parents helped welcome the public and present their creations, showcasing their commitment. The children of the Maison des Familles also explored the exhibition, a particularly meaningful moment for the families.
A photo book and a video summary of the project then served to preserve a lasting record of the project and highlight the work carried out collectively.
Following this initial presentation, the exhibition continues its journey with its first stop at the Maison de la vie Associative et Citoyenne from April 7, 2026, through May 22, 2026.
